3 Youngsters from Mumbai left Country to Join ISIS

On Monday, December 21st, 2015, Police officials told that three youngsters from Mumbai are reported to have left the country to join ISIS – the dreaded terror outfit.

Reportedly, the three youths, Ayaz Sultan (23), Mohsin Sheikh (26) and Wajid Sheikh (25), are all residents of Malvani area in western suburb of Mumbai.

The Anti-Terrorism Squad suspects that three men from Malvani, who went missing over the last two months, have left to join the Islamic State.

“We suspect that the three joined the IS and our probe is on to ascertain this,” Malvani police station’s senior inspector Milind Khetle said.

The parents of the three men have registered a missing complaint with the Malvani police, he said.

While Sultan went missing on October 30, the other two have been missing since December 16, the ATS official said.

According to police official, Sultan left home on October 30 after informing his parents that he had to go to Pune regarding a job offer he got from a Kuwait-based firm.

Whereas, 26 year old Mohsin Sheikh  departed from home on December 16, saying he was going to attend a friend’s wedding; and Wajid Sheikh (25) also left left on the same date i.e December 16 in order to get his Aadhar card corrected.

If the ATS’s suspicion turns out to be true, this will be the second instance of men from the Mumbai leaving to join the millitant outfit ISIS.

Reportedly last year, Areeb Majeed departed along with three of his accomplices Fahad Shaikh, Saheem Tanki and Aman Tandel on 23rd May from Mumbai,  as part of a group of 22 pilgrims intending to visit religious shrines in Iraq.

Majeed tried to blow himself four times during IS operations in Syria and Iraq and now is currently in judicial custody in Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail, making him the only Indian in custody to have fought with the Islamic State.
