  • Saffron:

    Since saffron is common in India, I’m sure most of us have tried it and also know its value. In every household mothers and grandmom’s always used to lock away saffron in some tiny miny box for use during religious or luxurious event.

    It costs an estimated US$3,000 for just one kilogram. It comes from the Crocus Saffron plant which blooms only once a year.

  • Vanilla:

A pure Vanilla extract can cost US$3,500 to US$4,000 a pound. Vanilla is not commonly available, as the plant only blooms for several hours in a year, leaving little time for pollination. And hence the price!

It is a form of food mostly common in China. Found in the caves of Southeast Asia, Bird’s Nest or Swiftnest, can cost up to US$1,000 per pound.

The nests are formed by the saliva of a male swallow and comes in three colours: yellow, white and red.

  • Matsutake Mushrooms: 

We have tried the common man’s mushrooms but there are way different. These Japanese mushrooms are mostly found only in Japan and can cost about US$1,000 per pound.

These mushrooms are extremely hard to find, as they are often hidden among fallen leaves.

A form of coffee, that you wouldn’t want to know how it’s made? The coffee beans are extracted from the excrete of the Palm Civet. Can cost upto $3,000 per Kg.
