It was showtime during the match between Royal Challengers and Delhi Daredevils on Sunday (May 15th, 2015). The Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli was found talking to girlfriend Anushka Sharma when the players left the field due to rains at the Chinnaswamy stadium. Believe it or not, but this is not permitted by the Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) of the International Cricket Council (ICC) – Phew…Really? Tough to imagine this granularity in the rule book!
Anushka was sitting in the VIP enclosure adjacent to the players’ dugout and came up to Kohli as soon as the players jogged off. The ACSU team monitors the players and their activities on and off the ground during the IPL and therefore complained about it.
In an official statement the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) confirmed that Virat Kohli will be warned for speaking with girlfriend Anushka Sharma during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match.
The IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla said that, “We shouldn’t blow the thing out of proportion but I have spoken to him and told him he shouldn’t speak to anyone when technically the match is still on. At the Chinnaswamy [stadium], there is only a partition between the VIP enclosure and the players area and hence he may have spoken. If the ACSU officials inform us we will definitely warn him but I have already informally spoken to him and told him not to do this.”
Looks like it is all ‘back to school’ days where teacher used to ask not to talk in the classroom. Since I’m not from the cricket background, I’m not very sure how relevant these rules are however from the surface it looks like the duo came into attention only because of their celeb-status.
