On Wednesday 2nd March, Hosts Bangladesh outclassed the Pakistani side in their T20 clash with 5 wickets in Dhaka and booked a place in the final of the Asia Cup 2016.
Batting first, Pakistan’s batting order collapsed once again as they lost 4 batsmen in just 8 overs for 28 runs. However, wicket-keeper batsmen Sarfraz Ahmed (58 runs in 42 balls) and experienced Shoaib Malik (41 runs in 30 balls) played sensible innings and added some crucial runs for their team to the total of 129 runs.
But, Bangladeshi bowlers came back strongly to bag the crucial wickets of Malik and Pakistani skipper Shahid Afridi (0 runs) and restricted Pakistani side from crossing the 130 runs mark. Al-Amin Hossain bowled amazing spells to claim total 3 wickets, while Taskin and Mortaza took one each and Sunny bagged 2 wickets in the nail biting thriller.
In response, Bangladesh started off pretty well as Soumya Sarkar struck an impressive 48 runs in 48 balls (hitting one six and five fours) and set the stage for victory while Mahmudullah (22 runs in 15 balls) smashed some magnificent shots in the last overs and cruised his side to the victory. Bangladesh chased the total of 129 runs comfortably, with 5 wickets in hand and 5 balls to spare as they finished scoring 131/5 in 19.1 overs.
Pakistan, which is now out of the tournament, will face Sri Lanka on Friday, with the winner finishing third in the five-team tournament.
Bangladesh will meet team India in the finals of the Asia cup, which is scheduled to held on Sunday.
