As part of the ongoing promotional activity for the International Yoga Day to be celebrated on June 21st – the tourism ministry has announced an on-going expenditure of about Rs. 10 crore on the marketing activities, both in India and around the World.
The task has been distributed among-st its 14 offices across the World, and the 14-day brand-building exercise includes publicity on TV, radio, hoardings and billboards, brochures, etc. It is also set to organise special events in countries with sizeable Indian diaspora.
Official broadcaster Doordarshan will share its live feed of the event on Sunday with broadcasters from over 170 countries in the world to ensure that it gets as much publicity as possible.
The Indian High Commissioner’s office in London, for instance, has been granted a special fund of Rs 25 lakh to organise a yoga event to coincide with the celebrations at a stadium in the British capital.
“The event in London will be attended by a large number of NRIs in the UK,” tourism secretary Lalit K Panwar told ET. It is a global event, which is why money is being spent on creating the right buzz abroad too, he said.
