State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) termed Reliance Jio’s entry into the market as a major “challenge” for all operators. But at the same time, it expects to give an intense competition by matching “tariff-by-tariff” on the plan, it offers. Ultimately, a WIN-WIN game for the consumer!
Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio, has been advertised as the the cheapest mobile data plan in the World, with flexible tariff terms – starting at as low as Rs. 19.
And now, with BSNL getting quite aggressive, it believes that it’s in a position to match Reliance Jio’s tariffs successfully.
It has unveiled a promotional plan that effectively translates to less than Re 1 per GB download cost for very high usage subscribers.
The company has further announced that:
“BSNL is going to launch a very cost-effective and affordable promotional unlimited Broadband plan ‘Experience Unlimited BB 249’ from 9 September 2016.”
Last month, the company even announced that its landline subscribers would be able to make unlimited calls free of charge to any mobile or landline number in the country on Sundays.
Further, it offers a national unlimited 3G mobile data plan for Rs. 1,099 and doubled the data usage limit in some existing plans, to counter competition in the market.
Clearly, it is the intense competition that is driving the market prices down. However, in the long term it will usually depend on the area network, connectivity, voice quality and customer service offered – that makes the telecom company different from others.
Each of the operators is spending vividly on the promotional campaigns, marketing activities etc. but the winner in the game is usually decided by word of mouth publicity – which can’t be tailored in the long run.
