Cinema icon and Legendary actor, Dilip Kumar honored Padma Vibhushan on Sunday, 13th December, at his residence.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited Indian veteran actor Dilip Kumar at his residence to honour him with the Padma Vibhushan award.
The 93 year old legendary actor, known as Tragedy King of his era was presented a medal, a certificate and a shawl by Rajnath Singh, in the presence of the actor’s wife Saira Bano.
The announcement to honour Bollywood veterans Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan and a few others with the prestigious Padma Vibhushan award was made by the government on the eve of Republic Day on January 25, 2015.
However, Dilip Kumar, due to poor physical condition, could not attend the special function held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in April when other Padma awardees were honoured by President Pranab Mukherjee.
Recently, the actor’s wife Saira Banu had told:
“We got a call from Raj Bhavan and were informed that Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will honour Dilip Sahab at home two days after his birthday. This makes it special.” Saira Banu
Dilip Kumar (born as Muhammad Yousuf Khan) made debut as an actor in the movie Jwar Bhata in 1944 produced by Bombay Talkies. His career has spanned over six decades and with over 60 films delivering exceptional and distinguished contribution to the Indian cinema.
He starred in the movies of a variety of genres such as the romantic Andaz (1949), the swashbuckling Aan (1952), the dramatic Devdas (1955), the comical Azaad (1955), the historical Mughal-e-Azam (1960) and the social Ganga Jamuna (1961).
He was honoured by the Government of India with the ‘Padma Bhushan’ award in 1991 and the ‘Dadasaheb Phalke’ Award in 1994.
