The heart-throb of the nation Salman Khan has been appointed as the goodwill ambassador for the Rio Olympics 2016. Salman in the midst of controversies is not something new, this time again just after this appointment, Legendary sprinter Milkha Singh instantly criticized this step by saying:
Our sports persons are the real ambassadors of India who would represent the country in the Olympics. Why import a Bollywood celeb?
Another prominent sportsperson bronze medal winner at London Olympics wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt also fired a salvo by questioning this appointment and asking:
Everybody has the right to promote movies, but Olympics is not the place. Can anyone tell me the role of goodwill ambassador?
In my opinion, there is nothing wrong in appointing someone very popular and inspiring as goodwill ambassador for the Rio Olympics. Salman is one of the biggest youth icons of recent times.
Indian Olympics Association has done the right thing by doing this. They have touched the right cord at the right time by making this announcement. Such is the gravity of this decision that it instantly garnered the requisite attention from each and every corner of the Nation. It has served its primary purpose of drawing attention towards the Rio Olympics 2016.

Moreover he got support from former Miss world and renowned actress ‘Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’ who says that:
Anybody who is doing good to represent the country and anybody who is working or seeking or standing out for whatever vocation we have in the country be it sports, arts or music, I think that’s wonderful and needs to be recognised.
These words of wisdom from Aishwarya Rai Bachchan sum up this whole debate to a resounding conclusion. Now the decision has been taken, so for the pride of our Nation we have to stay united and respect this decision.
