On Tuesday 26th January, India defeated the hosts Australia in the opening T20 international by 37 runs. Virat Kohli‘s thrashing knock of 90 runs in just 55 balls and some crafty bowling by Indian spinners led India to victory by a convincing margin at the Adelaide Oval.
India got off to a solid start with in-form Rohit Sharma went blazing from the top as he smashed four boundaries and a six, most of them off them to Shaun Tait. But experienced all rounder Shane Watson wrapped up both the openers, Rohit (31) and Dhawan (5 runs) in the same over.
From there on, though, it was all about Kohli (90) and Suresh Raina (41) as Virat Kohli once again played an excellent innings and smashed the Australian bowling attack all over the ground and India posted the massive total of 188 runs in 20 overs.
However, Aussies, started with a bang as Finch and David Warner got off to a fiery start , picking up 47 quick runs in the first five overs. But Indian bowlers chose not to disappoint the fans this time as Jasprit Bumrah, bowled ridiculously good and got the break through for india as he claimed the important wicket of David Warner (17). Bumrah claimed 3 wickets in his 3.3 overs.
Although, Steve Smith (21) and Aaron Finch (44) built some momentum for Aussies, but Indian spinners did the maximum damage as Ashwin and Jadeja both picked up 2 wickets each to complete a comprehensive 37-run victory, as the home team finished on 151 all out in 19.3 overs.
