On Wednesday 24th Feb, Team India continued their domination in T20 cricket as they thrashed the host Bangladesh by 45 runs in the opening match of the Asia Cup Tournament at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka.
India’s in-form opening batsman, Rohit Sharma once again played magnificent innings as he laid the foundation for the huge total of 166 runs. Rohit scored blazing 83 runs in just 55 balls with seven 4’s and three 6’s, as he hammered the Bangladesh bowlers all over the ground.
Moreover, a fierce power-hitting by youngster Hardik Pandya, who played the excellent innings of 31 runs in just 18 balls, also helped India to put massive total on the board.
On a green wicket, Bangladesh bowlers started out aggressively as they bagged two important wickets of Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli in first 3 overs of the match and left India struggling at 2 for 22. But soon, the hosts lost control of the game as Rohit and Pandya weathered the storm and cruised their side to a dominating position by the end of the Indian innings.
In response, Bangladesh lost their opening duo Soumya Sarkar (11 in 14 balls) and Mohammad Mithun (01 in 03 balls) too early in the start, while chasing the big total. Bangladesh’s Sabbir Rahman played a decent knock of 44 runs, but Indian bowlers took the game away from the hosts and restricted them to 121 for seven in 20 overs.
Indian pace-man, Ashish Nehra bowled brilliantly as he claimed 3 wickets in his four overs, while Ashwin, Bumrah and Pandya claimed 1 wicket each.
Team India will face arch-rivals Pakistan in their next match of Asia Cup on 27 Feb, Saturday.
