On Saturday 27 Feb, India defeated the arch rivals Pakistan by 5 wickets in a nail-biting thriller in the fourth game of the Asia Cup Twenty20 Championship at Mirpur.
Indian batsman, Virat Kohli smashed brilliant 49 runs off 51 balls on quick green pitch, to lead his side to victory, especially surviving the dangerous spell of Mohammed Amir, to defend a scanty total of 83 runs, put on by the Pakistani team in 4th T20 match of Asia Cup.
After winning the toss, team India elected to bowl first, and the decision was proved right when the fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Ashish Nehra came out with brilliant spells and repeated strikes with the new ball which shattered Pakistan’s opening batting order in first 3 overs.
Nehra had the experienced Mohammad Hafeez (4 runs off 4 balls) edging behind in his first over, while Bumrah, after bowling an amazing maiden over, got the wicket of in-form Sharjeel Khan (7 runs off 5 balls) with a slower cutter delivery in the next over.
Struggling at 35 for 5 after 7.1 overs, Pakistan lost all its momentum and never actually bounced back in the game as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Only two Pakistani batsmen Khurram Manzoor (10 runs in 18 balls) and Sarfraz Ahmed (25 runs in 24 balls) were able to reach double figures in their lowest total against the arch rivals, India.
Indian all rounder Hardik Pandya, with his career best performance took 3 wickets for 8 runs and the left arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja claimed 2-11.
However, it was not an easy chase for India, as the Pakistani bowlers came out pretty strongly as Mohammed Amir bowled a thunderous spell and put the indian side under huge pressure. After the ferocious appeal on his very first bowl of the run chase , Amir trapped India’s opening batsman, Rohit Sharma with the his second ball , he then picked up Ajinkya Rahane on his fourth delivery and Suresh Raina in his second over, leaving India reeling at 3 for 8 in 2.4 overs. Amir picked up 3 wickets for 18 runs in his 4 overs.
But for Pakistan fans, Amir’s spell was the only thing to cheer about as the game pretty much ended with his spell seen off.
Indian batsmen, Virat (49) and Yuvraj Singh (not out 14 runs in 32 balls) stood strong against Pakistani pacers and steadied the innings with the duo combining a total of 68-run partnership for the fourth wicket and cruised their side to victory in a crucial match.
India will face Sri Lanka in the 7th game of Asia Cup 2016 on Tuesday, 1 March.
