On Sunday 14 February, Team India crushed Sri Lanka by 9 wickets to dominate the series 2-1 in the third and final T20 international at Visakhapatnam stadium.
Indian off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin (4 wickets for 8 runs) bowled magnificently as he took his career-best four-wicket haul in the 3rd T20 and cruised india to an thrashing victory over Lanka. Ashwin not only took two wickets in his very first over of the game but also managed to bowl an amazing maiden over, which is very hard in fast-scoring T20 games.
Besides Ashwin, off-breaker Suresh Raina also claimed two wickets as as the hosts bundled out Sri Lanka for 82, their lowest ever score in T20 international cricket.
The smashing series win over Sri Lanka also helped Indian team to retain its numero uno position in the ICC T20 rankings.
Sri lankan was seen struggling throughout the game as their only two batsmen Dasun Shanaka (19 runs) and Thisara Perera (12 runs) managed to get two figure scores at ACA-VDCA stadium.
In response, the total seemed too small for India, who are famous as ‘chasers’ in the international cricket as they have chased some monstrous totals in the high scoring matches. Even-though India lost early wicket of man in form Rohit Sharma in 6th over, they still overhauled the target in just 13.5 overs, as Shikhar Dhawan (46 runs off 46 balls) and Ajinkya Rahane (22 runs off 24 balls) rocketed India to a dominating victory.
Ravichandran Ashwin was named both, Man of the Match and Man of the Series for his brilliant performance throughout the series.
For the ‘Men in Blue’, this was the second successive series win after they whitewashed Aussies 3-0 in their own backyard.
India’s next assignment, before T20 World Cup, will be Asia Cup in Bangladesh where they will face the hosts on February 24 in the tournament-opener at Mirpur.
