Abdelhamid Abaaoud, alleged mastermind of the Paris terrorist attacks, was killed during the major anti terrorist operation conducted by police in Saint-Denis, a suburb of the Paris on Wednesday morning.
French Investigators confirmed the death of Abaaoud, 27-year-old Belgian, on Thursday (19 November, 2015). His identity was confirmed via prints from fingers, palms and soles.
Abdelhamid Abaaoud’s father Omar Abaaoud, who lives in Morocco, told his attorney, Nathalie Gallant, that he was “relieved” that his son was dead. Omar Abaaoud also told his attorney, that his son was a “psychopath” and a “devil”.
27 year old Abaaoud was identified by Intelligence agencies as a key link between ISIS leadership in Syria and European terror cells. He is also believed to have moved between several European countries, without being seized.
Abaaoud, a close associate of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, had been on the radar of counter terrorism for sometime and was also targeted in last month’s French airstrikes on Syria.
He was using social media to try to recruit Spanish citizens, mostly women, to join ISIS in Syria, said Spain’s Interior Minister Jorge Fernandez.
FBI is closely tracking many of the people, they think pose the highest threat of attempting to carry out a similar attack in the United States, said FBI Director James Comey and Attorney General Loretta Lync. They also told, no relationship exists between the Paris attackers and anyone in the United States, till now.
Its a big achievement for the security forces and people of France. France and other countries should stay strong and alert till the situation is completely under control.
