The suicide by a dalit student, Rohith Vemula, has recently kicked up a major row in the nation with Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani and Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, both of them were heavily bashed by the political rivals, who have blamed them for the incident and demanded their removal.

Reportedly, Rohith Vemula, and four other students, members of Ambedkar Student Association, were rusticated by the UoH administration after they were involved in a series of clashes with ABVP members. Later Rohith committed suicide by hanging himself in a hostel room. He was research scholar in the Science and Technology department at University of Hyderabad.
