On Wednesday 24th Feb, Nepal’ rescue teams have found the burnt-out wreckage of a small passenger plane carrying 23 people, that went missing in a mountainous remote area in western Nepal.
Aananda Prasad Pokharel, the minister for culture and tourism said :
“The wreckage of the plane was found in a completely burnt state in Solighopte in Myagdi district,”
“The team there say that the bodies are scattered and it is not possible to identify anyone right now”
“More security agencies are being deployed and we are trying to get more information.”
A police official told sources, that the wreckage of the aircraft, which was on a scheduled 18-minute flight, was still blazing and all the bodies were badly scorched. He added that the plane must’ve crashed directly into the mountain, due to the thick fog enveloped at the area of Mustang, where Jomsom is located.
As per reports, the aircraft was carrying three crew members and 20 passengers, including two children. Incidentally, a Chinese and Kuwaiti national were also killed during the horrible air disaster.
Earlier, a Nepal official told sources that the aircraft lost contact with the control tower at Pokhara city, around 8 minutes after take-off. A rescue operation was launched shortly after the plane went missing and three helicopters were sent to search for the aircraft.
Jomsom, a famous spot among foreign tourists visiting the Mount Annapurna and Mustang region for trekking, is also among Hindu pilgrims visiting the Muktinath temple.
