The Facebook owned messaging platform, WhatsApp, has added many more features and updates for the Android version of the app. As part of its update version 2.12.535, it features from sharing of pdf files, a redesigned Settings page, showing end-to-end encryption notification.
Clearly it is the most popular messaging platform, with more than 600 million active users. In April 2015, WhatsApp reached 800 million active users. By September 2015, the user base had grown to 900 million, and by February 2016 it had grown to one billion.
Going forward, the next WhatsApp update will come with new formatting options, such as messages in bold or italics. After this update goes live to the public, you will then be able to format text from inside WhatsApp.
All you need to do this is by adding an asterisks at the start and finish of your text. And when you want to add italics, you just need to _between underscores_. Isn’t it cool?
In addition, the text formatting is not only limited to messages but has reached to notification alerts as well. Users with the new WhatsApp version will see the name of the sender in bold inside the notification dropdown. In addition, if the sender has sent texts in bold or italics, it would show in the same format in the notification tray. Of course both parties should be on the same app version number 2.12.535.
Strangely, there’s no official documentation on this from WhatsApp just yet, but we’re assuming they’ll have something to share with us all some time soon.
