Canadian national Surinder Singh Kang, was taken into custody after he crashed his SUV straight into the Pakistan gate.
On Monday morning (16th Nov) 3:45 am IST, 42-year-old Surinder Singh Kang (NRI from Canada) drove past numerous security barricades and rammed his vehicle through the border gates at the Attari-Wagah crossing with Pakistan located at Amritsar.Kang was later arrested by BSF personnel.
Co-incidentally the previous day i.e 15 Nov itself BSF announced additional vigil and security at the international border in wake of the Paris terrorist attack.
According to BSF official, Kang was allegedly drunk when he drove his SUV into the gate at Attari, crossed the Zero Line, and crashed into the gate at the Pakistani side. Kang smashed his SUV into two gates before being overpowered by BSF personnel.Few medicines consumed for mind relaxation were recovered from his possession.
Kang was later handed to Local police by BSF personnel. A local court on Tuesday granted the Amritsar rural police three-day remand of Surinder Singh Kang.
“We have been given three-day police remand of Surinder Singh Kang. We will investigate him. He has also been examined medically but the report is pending. We cannot say anything about his objective. He looks like he is mentally upset. He also seems a religious person. It is possible that he wanted to go to Nankana Sahib in Pakistan. But nothing can be said as of now. We are probing the matter,” said Yadwinder Singh, SHO Gharinda.
I think the intentions of the man may not be hazardous but it surely have exposed a loophole in Border security. Security forces certainly needs to be more alert!
