On Tuesday 16th February 2016, a leader of the ruling Rashtriya Janata Dal party (RJD), Virendra Yadav was shot dead by unidentified bike-borne assailants in Samastipur, Bihar.
As per sources, Yadav died during the attack while another person, who was also injured in the shootout incident was later treated at a local hospital.
The police officials stated that the assailants used AK-47 assault rifle in the crime at Bithan area of the district.
Reportedly, a case was registered against four accused while two persons were later arrested by the police whereas the probe is still on.
Meanwhile, the supporters of RJD leader, displayed violent protests by blocking roads and shouting slogans against the district police in Samastipur area after the assassination.
This is not the first time that a political personality was murdered in the state. Recently on February 13, Visheshwar Ojha (Bharatiya Janata Party’s state vice president) was also fatally shot in Bhojpur area.
