The Bombay High Court today suspended Salman Khan’s 5-year sentence in the 2002 hit-and-run case. The actor has been granted a bail till May 8 on the ground that he had not been furnished a copy of the entire judgement, but given only a two-page operative part of the verdict. All the fans took a sigh of relief whereas members of the film industry thanked God for answering their prayers. Even the actor himself thanked his fans for all the support.
Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit said, “It’s a great relief to his family, the film industry and his fans. His goodness and kind-heartedness has been rewarded by God. I am sure he will be later acquitted also… Sadly. Salman was paying the price of being a celebrity.”
The actor has applied for a bail with a bond of Rs. 30,000 along with the surrender of his passport. He can only travel abroad with the court’s permission. As a next step, the High Court will take another look at his case in July.
