Bollywood Actor Sanjay Dutt, who was behind the bars since 2013, is likely to come out from the Yerwada Central Jail in Pune in the first week of March 2016. However, the sustenance of this proposal is yet to be cleared from Maharashtra Government. Dutt was sentenced for 5 year imprisonment after he was pronounced guilty in the 1993 Mumbai blast case for possessing illegal weapons.
He had spent 18 months in jail after his arrest in 1996 and has been in jail for 42 months since 2013.
Apparently, the proposal of this sustenance is said to be because of Sanjay’s good conduct in jail. As every prisoner, who has been behaving good gets his period in jail shortened by 30 days.
The actor delayed his returned to jail by 2 days after a furlough of 14 days in December 2014, due to which his released got delayed.
In September 2015, Maharashtra Governor CV Rao rejected a pardon plea, but Dutt’s lawyers claimed he never applied for any. In a joint statement issued, advocates Hitesh Jain and Subhash Jadhav said that the news about the governor turning down the actor’s plea was “purely based on the application made by Justice Markandey Katju seeking pardon for Dutt and other convicts”.
