In a heart-rending accident in Panna district of Madhya Pradesh, a passenger bus fell from a bridge and caught massive fire. Close to 21 people burnt to death whereas more than 13 were severely injured.
The bus belonged to Anup Travels and was en route Satna from Chattarpur. Eyewitnesses say that the bus driver lost control of the bus which led to the accident.
In an interview to NDTV one of the eyewitness claimed, “I saw the bus on the small bridge, suddenly it was out of control and fell off. The bus fell on the left side where the two doors were which were blocked the other side had windows but with grills so only three-four could escape. As soon as the bus fell it caught fire.”
The PM Narendra Modi offered condolences to the families of the deceased whereas Congress President Sonia Gandhi has expressed shock and sadness at the incident.
Further, even the state government has announced a compensation of Rs. 2 lakh each to the family of the deceased and Rs. 50,000 for the seriously injured; but this can nowhere be close to the lives of those innocent people who died in this accident.
Once again it raises a question on the credibility of our bus drivers and governing authorities.
Can’t there be a similar amount of investment in ensuring skilled drivers and adequate condition of the passenger buses rather than making regret statements later-on?
